I remember as a young child I had these brown plaques hanging on my bedroom wall...one was titled my bedtime prayer, which I can still recite verbatim to you today 40 years later, and the other one was titled "Children Learn What They Live!"I used to know it all by heart as well, but lost some of that in the last 40 years. But that doesn't negate my point I'm about to make!
We learn from our parents, grandparents, society, siblings, people that are around us each and every day. So, as a parent we are responsible for making choices for our child and whether these choices are good or bad our children learn to do them, adapt, and as a parent we hope that what we teach them is taken out into the world and passed on for generations to come.
Which takes me to the awesome picture I received from Brooke the other day. My kids text me pretty much daily so it's not uncommon to hear from them or get random pictures.
So, she sends me the above pic. I giggle and immediately send the following pic to her:
Now, you can see why I giggled. Looks familiar doesn't it.
Brooke is married and lives 45 minutes away in Winona Lake. But somehow we've managed to have the same things on our counter tops!
I want my children to be healthy! I want them to make good choices. I want them to feel all the benefits of making healthy choices and that not only includes the food I want them to eat but the nutraceuticals and supplements that they take as well.
So, what all is on "my counter?"
1. Juice Plus (Garden, Orchard and Vineyard Blend)
Dose: 1 of each capsule 2 x daily
Juice Plus is a variety of 32 different vegetables, fruits and grains in a capsule. Juice plus is gluten free and non- GMO. Fruit and vegetables provide your body with important phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Ideally they should be consumed every day. Most people (adults and children) are NOT getting the recommended servings of vegetables and fruit daily and Juice Plus bridges the gap between what you eat and what you should eat!!
2. Juice Plus (Omega Blend)
1 capsule 2 x daily
We've all heard of Omega 3's and why we need them. Juice Plus has a vegan, non GMO, gluten free option for getting a full spectrum of omega fatty acids which support a broad array of health benefits, especially for the brain, vision and heart.
3. Vitamin D3 (Now Brand)
I take 5,000 IU 2 x daily in winter 1 x daily in summer
Vitamin D is sometimes called the sunshine vitamin. Your body actually produces vitamin D when you are exposed to sunshine. (We live in Indiana where that isn't a year round treat!) Vitamin D is necessary to facilitate normal immune function, fight disease, reduce depression and boost weight loss.
4. Neuro- Mag (Magnesium L-Threonate)
I take 2 capsules in AM, 1 capsule PM
Enhances memory and cognitive function. This is also know to reduce anxiety!
Magnesium, in its different forms is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps to maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps the heart beat steady, and helps bones remain strong. It also helps regulate blood glucose levels and aid in the production of energy and protein.
5. Magnesium Citrate (Natural Calm)
I take 3 tsps every night before bed.
Anti- stress drink, aids in a nice stress free sleep. And of course is responsible for all of the functions listed above!
6. Echinacea
I take 1 capsule 2 x daily in winter or when exposed to colds or viruses.
Immune system support - needed in winter to fight off colds, flu and other seasonal viruses.
We all know that we can get most of what our body needs by eating real food. I like to keep my supplements to a minimum and I have found that this is a perfect combination along with a healthy diet to keep my body running at optimum performance. Sometimes, depending on life's situation's I'll mess with the dosage of some of the above items. If my workouts are harder or right now being in competition I've doubled my doses of Omega's and Vitamin D to provide my body what it needs to recover each week.
